Traction and Rolling Stock Seminar

Traction and Rolling Stock Seminar
10 April 2019
NCHSR, Birmingham campus

RIA has run separate events for commercial and technical interests in the Rolling Stock industry for many years. RIA members might want to attend both but don’t have time to, so we are experimenting with running both events back to back in one day at the same location. TCIG will run before lunch and T&RS TIG after lunch, and as a bonus there is an opportunity for a larger group to network over lunch, even if they are not attending both halves of the event.

The TCIG agenda is packed with great sources of information and promises to promote a good discussion too. Brian Freemantle Head of Rolling Stock Policy & Contracts, Department for Transport will share his view on market successes and the challenges DfT faces. Ian Dolman, Managing Director UK Transit services at Wabtec Faiveley, will provide a supplier perspective on the impact on the refurb market of the recent spike in new train orders – an unplanned and unwelcome side-effect? As one door closes, another one opens and usefully, John Ward and Jonathan Hall from the Rolling Stock Renewals Commercial Team at TfL will be providing an update on the TfL fleet pipeline. Popular presenter Pete Colley, Director at PKLG Services will share his work on the balanced scorecard for rail procurement. The vastly experienced Phillip Hinde has been retained by the Rail Delivery Group to look at the practicalities around new fleet introduction and cascade plans and will share his interim findings. Finally, RIA’s own Senior Policy Manager, Damian Testa, will provide us with an update on what Brexit means for the Rail Industry.

After the networking lunch, T&RS TIG will kick off with Mike Muldoon, Head of Business Development & Marketing at Alstom Transport on the key characteristics and performance of the Alstom Hydrogen Train and then Julian Franks from SNC-Lavalin will be talking about his work with a client on the Bi-Mode system operator role. You may have heard about the complete revamp and relaunch of the Rail Industry Supplier Approval Scheme (RISAS) and Richard Sharp, Schemes Systems Manager at RSSB will be updating us on this important development. People and skills will be increasingly an issue for the industry and it would be illogical not to discuss this key issue whilst at the NCHSR, so we will benefits from the experience of Kathy Howarth, the Kathy Howarth, Head of Business Engagement at the National College for High Speed Rail about future careers in railway.

Please note registrations close on 09 April at 10:00.
