Vehicle/Track Interface Group Forum

Vehicle/Track Interface Group Forum
01 March 2019
RIA offices, London

Join the next Vehicle/Track Interface Group forum on 1 March 2019. A buffet lunch will be available at 12:30, preceding the meeting which is due to start at 13:30 and end at 17:00.

Bjoern Kaempfer from Siemens will share his notes from the Vehicle-Track System Interface Committee (V/T SIC), hosted by RSSB, one of the five cross-industry groups which seek to optimise the economic and technical management of key railway interfaces.

Simon Groom from Alstom Transport will speak about the work at Wheelset Management Group, a subgroup to V/T SIC, which purpose is to provide an industry forum for wheelset management issues.

Julian Stow and Hamid Alturbeh from Institute of Railway Research will present the LABRADOR braking model (Low Adhesion Braking Dynamic Optimisation for Rolling Stock), a simulation tool that can predict the train brake system performance and support decision-making in the design and optimisation of the braking system.

Internationally renowned innovators Prof. Malcolm Smith of Cambridge University and Dr Jason Jiang of Bristol University will present their work on the Inerter (sometimes called a J-Damper), which is a whole new concept in suspension design. The Inerter has been licenced by McLaren and Penske Racing for use in Formula One and other motorsport applications and Prof. Smith would like Rail Industry's input on whether this device could help in our work. Could it have a beneficial effect in preventing development of Cyclic Top for example? This should be a really interesting presentation and a rare opportunity to have a Q&A with the academic authorities on this device.
Please note registrations close on Thursday 28 February at 12:00.
