Vehicle Track Interface Technical Interest Group

Vehicle Track Interface Technical Interest Group
22 January 2019
RIA Offices, London
10:00-14:00

RIA’s Vehicle/Track Interaction Group (VTIG) is perhaps the most specialised TIG but then probably looks at the most critical area of the rail system. Despite being around for a very long time, we still don’t understand everything about the wheel/rail interface and research continues. Much of the good work goes on at Huddersfield University and Prof. Paul Allen will be at VTIG to tell us about this. If you were at our recent Unlocking Innovation event in Huddersfield you will have met HAROLD, but if not then this a great opportunity to find out more on what or who HAROLD is.

It’s pretty unlikely you will have steered a train but if you were able to steer a train then wear on the both the wheels and the track could be dramatically reduced. Derby company SET has a full-scale working prototype steering train and current testing is producing real data on this system. Richard Uttley of SET will be sharing this terrific progress with us.

Neil Gofton, Lead track Engineer at RSSB will give an update from the Vehicle-Track System Interface Committee (V/T SIC) and Stephen Barber, Chief Executive Officer at Permanent Way Institution will share his challenges with the group.

Space at this event is very limited so please book early and let us know if you no longer can make the event.

Please note that the registrations will close on 21 January at 10:00.
