Summary
Ahead of the elections in May 2026, RIA Scotland has released a manifesto setting out its view on how to deliver a better railway for Scotland.
Commenting on the Manifesto, RIA Scotland Chair Campbell Braid said:
“RIA Scotland's priority is clear: to ensure Scotland’s rail supply chain is positioned to deliver a modern, sustainable and resilient railway that supports jobs, investment and economic growth across the country.
"As we launch our manifesto ahead of the 2026 elections to the Scottish Parliament, we are calling for long-term funding certainty, continued funding for the rolling programme of electrification and decarbonisation, and a strong pipeline of projects that gives businesses the confidence to invest in skills, innovation and apprenticeships. We would also encourage the next Scottish Government to consider private finance to support and supplement public investment in rail.
"Scotland has world-class rail expertise. With the right policy framework and commitment from the next Parliament, we can strengthen domestic manufacturing, grow exports, and deliver the reliable, low-carbon railway passengers and freight customers depend on. Our message is simple: sustained investment in rail is an investment in Scotland’s economy, its workforce and its net-zero future.”
