LM wins Constructing Excellence Civils Project of the Year

11 October 2021 | Laing O'Rourke

LM has been crowned the winner of Constructing Excellence West Midlands Civils Project of the Year.

At an award ceremony in Birmingham on 10 September, the Laing O’Rourke and J Murphy & Sons joint venture team was named winner for the design, construction and delivery of modular bridges over the M42 and A446 for HS2, last summer.

Accepting the award was Nick Field LM project manager, Philip Robinson, LOR Civil Engineering Leader, Christina Wallace, HS2 Senior Project Manager, Time Rowe, Project Manager Expanded, and Paul Day, LM Engineering Leader.

Their DfMA strategy was pivotal in the efficient and safe delivery of both bridges, which they assembled from components built off site, and both positioned ahead of schedule with minimal disturbance to road users.

"This is a very proud moment for all of the LM team," said Paul Day. "We have demonstrated with these bridges, and further projects across our enabling works programme, that digital design, advanced engineering and offsite manufacturing are at the heart of the construction renaissance in the UK. As the nation seeks to build back better, we're leading the charge, and doing it safer, more efficiently, and reducing the impact on the environment."

Simon said: “As long as you’re not completely put off by maths, you will be just fine. You just have to be inquisitive about engineering and what makes things work.”
