Monitoring, maintaining and upgrading one of the oldest railways in the world and one of the most intensely used in Europe has provided UK rail suppliers with a wealth of experience in running an effective rail network.
The UK rail industry has world-class capabilities in delivering complex rail projects on time and to budget. According to independent researchers Oxford Economics, rail exports provide £800 million for the UK each year.
RIA’s aims are to assist our Members to help them export their products and services and - when working with DIT - to work will all UK companies to increase the exporting potential of the whole sector. RIA organises numerous export events on our own, as well as under our long-established Trade Challenge Partnership (TCP) rail delivery partner status with DIT. This status means RIA is the only organisation in the sector qualified to deliver events, research activity and administer DIT’s Trade Access Programme grants and payments for SME’s exhibiting at selected Trade Fair. Events include:
Meet the Buyers/1-2-1 meetings
- Road shows in the UK
- Briefing and Educational Rail Tours
- Inward Missions
- Outward Missions
- UK Pavilions at overseas trade fairs
Trade Challenge Partner
As a DIT Trade Challenge Partner (TCP), RIA administers the DIT Tradeshow Access Programme (TAP) which allows UK SME’s to apply for financial support grants to exhibit at core overseas rail exhibitions. The funding is available to both Member and Non-Members and helps UK business gain market knowledge, experience in attending and getting the most from overseas trade shows and advice and support from trade experts.
The grants are based around the TAP programme calendar of supported events, with RIA as the only fully accredited rail TCP leading the UK’s involvement at selected rail exhibitions, such as InnoTrans. Businesses usually take part as a group, led by RIA as the TCP.
RIA Members also benefit from our weekly Export Mail in which we collate business opportunities from various sources such as the European OJEC, DIT and overseas based rail/metro authorities and send these to our Members to enable then to consider bidding in overseas tenders.
Our Members also have direct access to important overseas rail market intelligence via our Members log-in Portal. Using this service allows Members to access recent rail presentations or some market overviews gained from various sources.
To sign up to the Export Mail, login to our Members' Area and select 'Export Mailing' under My Preferences.
